Book Review & Blog Tour: Exiles

My Review

Reading Exiles jumped to the forefront of my priorities list as soon as I got the advanced reader’s copy from Jaye. Other books might get lost in my work schedule, buried under tasks I need to do for church, or lay temporarily forgotten while I visit friends … but not when that book contains characters as beloved and missed of Kyrin, Jace, and the others.

Daniel

We finally get to know Prince Daniel better and guess what? You’re going to put this book down still wanting to read more about him! His journey in this book is inspiring and heartbreaking. When you are heir to the throne but also a believer in an outlawed faith… It leads to some difficult situations. Especially when your sister wants the throne for herself!

Jace & Kyrin

This book didn’t actually linger too much on our favorite duo, but that’s okay. We get enough of them to keep us happy. As usual, they find ways to get themselves into impossible situations where they fear for each others’ lives.

Anne

Anne, like Daniel, is another character who has held a relatively minor role in previous stories but had a star role in this book. She’s a sweet but strong young woman who is struggling to maintain dignity and personal safety while also providing an anchor for the man she loves and the man she hopes to one day call father-in-law.

Conclusion

There’s a lot more I could say about this story. How the geographically distant but interwoven storylines reminded me of God’s hand of providence that is always at work. How patience in love stories is absolutely precious. The list goes on. But the bottom line is, the Ilyon Chronices considers to be a personal favorite of mine, and I definitely recommend it as worth reading!

About the Exiles

Exiled after their defeat in Samara, the Resistance struggles to find allies in their quest to restore King Balen to his throne and put an end to the emperor’s tyranny. When the crete people refuse to lend their aid, Balen leads a group to Dorland to reason with them and win their support. However, enemies prove to be everywhere, and they find themselves in a fight to keep Dorland from becoming Daican’s latest conquest.

Back in Landale, the arrival of a new enemy forces Trask and Anne to tread more carefully than ever. Tensions are rising, and the enemy is determined to test Anne’s loyalty and root out the location of Trask and the Resistance once and for all.

Feeling trapped within the walls of Valcré, Prince Daniel must contend with an ever-eroding relationship with his father. As their clashes escalate, the situation becomes potentially life threatening when his loyalty is called into question. His sister seems bent on branding him a traitor and actively seeking to condemn him to the fate of those put to death in their father’s new arena. Daniel is certain his father would never execute his only son and heir, but with other forces at work, it might not be that simple.

One small misstep could prove fatal for all.
