Guess a Quote (3.04.13)

Question MarkLast week’s quote came from Christmas in Canaan. One intrepid reader, starshining4ever, did the hunt through the archives and found the correct answer. Congratulations, starshining!

Today I’m going to post several quotes from a book I recently read. It was a wonderful non-fiction story. I hope you’ve all read it.

Lord, if you show me the way, I will follow You.

That night I promised God that as often as I could lay hands on a Bible, I would bring it to these children of His behind the wall that men had built. How I would buy the Bibles, how I would get them in, I didn’t know. I only knew that I would bring them…to every other country where God opened the door long enough for me to slip through.

“Why are we worried!” Rolf said suddenly. “This is God’s work. He’ll make a way for us.”

Happy Guessing!

Is it from “God’s Smuggler” by Brother Andrew? I haven’t read the book, but somehow that book popped into my head when I read the quote. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Yes, that’s right, Grace. If you haven’t read it, you definitely should. It was really good.

It sounds quite interesting! I read one book about that missionary before when I was younger by Janet Benge in the “Christain Heroes Now and Then” series and really enjoyed it. ๐Ÿ™‚ What an amazing and inspiring story! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I can guess what missionary this quote is about, although I haven’t read the specific book it’s taken from. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Well, as Grace just proved, you don’t have to have read the book in order to guess. Or you can just guess the missionary. I don’t mind. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yes, that one’s on my “Read this one soon” list. “God’s Smuggler” the autobiography of Brother Andrew isn’t it?

So you’ve finally read it Leah? As of our last discussion, it was still filed under “to do” Congrats ๐Ÿ˜›

P.S. Has Jonathan read “The Brethren” by Haggard yet? (that’s another great series to review)

    • That is correct. Is it on your “read soon” list or “re-read soon” list?

Yes. I’ve read it. I finished it a few days ago.

No, he hasn’t. I’ll have to remind him.

  4. Hmmmmm…”God’s Smuggler”? That’s such a great book, BTW. Others similar to it that I like are “The Hiding Place” and “The Persecutor” ๐Ÿ˜€

  5. John and Elizabeth Sherrill, who helped write Brother Andrew’s bio, also helped write Corrie ten Boom’s (Hiding Place). And The Persecutor is about a former Russian KGB agent who turned to Jesus. Maybe you could review them? ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Thanks for the suggestion. Maybe I’ll do a month of books like this one later in the year. In any case, I’ll definitely be looking for The Persecutor. I never heard of it before, and it sounds right up my ally. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Thank you!

P.S. I just looked it up on Goodreads. Is it written by/about Sergei Kourdakov.

      • Yes!!! (one note, though: there’s a scene involving inappropriate behavior shown to Christian girls by KGB soldiers) But its a fascinating read!!!
