Guess a Quote (11.19.12)

Hello everyone! Are you ready to find out what book last week’s quote was from? I’m surprised all the Scarlet Pimpernel didn’t figure it out. The quote was from El Dorado: Further Adventures of the Scarlet Pimpernel. It appears some reviews of Scarlet Pimpernel sequels may be in order. 😉

And now, for today’s quote.

“Is the king dead?” he whispered.

“Please, God, no,” said I. “But he’s in the hands of Black Michael!”

What book is this quote from?

Don’t forget to leave a comment in the Book Review of Sir Bentley. I just realized that Thursday is Thanksgiving, so the winner will not be announced until Friday. 😉

Hey! I didn’t know there was a sequel!! Hurray!
I always felt that it stopped a little abruptly; and now that everyone knows who the Scarlet Pimpernel is, how on earth does he rescue anyone else? And my goodness, it certainly must have caused a commotion in England’s society circles that the biggest fool in England is the enigmatic hero of the century!
Now a library trip is on my “to do soon” list 😀

Wait a minute, I thought that the Pimpernel rescued the Dauphin at the end of the first book; or am I just thinking of the movie…? Guess I’ll just have to read them both again 🙂

Oh, and as far as your quote goes, that’s “The Prisoner of Zenda” isn’t it? (never read it, but I remember that quote from your review post. Sorry. 😉 )

Hang on, I just noticed: you said “Pimpernel SEQUELS” plural. Does that mean there’s more than one? Are they all written by the same author, or are the others well meaning attempts by someone else?

    • Yep, there’s a sequel.

One of the Scarlet Pimpernel movies combines The Scarlet Pimpernel and El Dorado, so that may be why you’re thinking the Dauphin got rescued. That doesn’t happen in the first book.

As for the quote, yes, you’re correct.
